Like many, when my husband and I purchased our first home the garage slowly began accumulating a plethora of THINGS. Every weekend we would make note and promise to one day make room for our car (which is still happily parked in the drive.) At our housewarming celebration my Mother brought along a box of various items she'd collected throughout my childhood. "I thought you might appreciate these." We all know however, what she was REALLY thinking about was... the amount of real estate she'd just acquired in her walk in closet, and how thankful she was to finally rid herself of the moldy macaroni art and Crayola skribbles.
That box sat for months amongst the others, and it wasn't until I bumped along the narrow path we'd managed to maintain while pregnant with my first that I'd finally decided to explore the contents within. Of course, I'd expected to find the crummy artwork every Mother raves about when gifted from the little people of their gene pool. What I came across at the very bottom thought was an unexpected gem. "A New Baby Girl" the photo album read. As I flipped the pages I saw the very story I had heard time and time again unfold before my eyes. In my hands were MY birth photos from 1989. My entrance into the world at 12:57pm were printed, in my very hands.
July 28, 2019, a Birthday Gift I'd like the opportunity to share with you. Below are the tangible memories from MY birth. These images were taken by My Mother's Mom, someone dear whom I loved and lost. A Grandmother, and a Great Grandmother to 2 she never had the opportunity to meet. Seeing the resemblance of my children in my squishy toe head and the joyous smiles on the faces of those I love is a gift I will cherish forever.
As a Birth Photographer, I stress the importance of documenting your birth. It's not all about job security, it's about encouraging famalies to be present in the experience and having the ability to rest easy knowing there will be a record of this time to enjoy in the years to come.
Be present. It's a gift for generations to follow, and one worth giving.
Thanks Mom.
